Before starting the installation process, temporarily disable any antivirus and anti-spyware software that may be running.
There are free and paid applications. When buying an app, the payment will be made through the Wallet connected to your Sony Entertainment Network™ account.
The procedures for the free and paid app partly differ. Proceed according to the type of the selected app.

Select the application in the PlayMemories™ Camera Apps website.
1. Open the PlayMemories Camera Apps website and select the camera you are using.
  1. Click ALL All Applications in SELECT to display the model of the cameras.
  2. Select the camera model. The applications which can be downloaded to the camera will be displayed.
    NOTES:
    - The available applications will vary depending on the camera model being used.
    - If you click Simple 4-Step Installation Guide, you can follow the guide to perform operations such as creating an account, changing the downloading tool settings, and installing applications.
2. Click the application you want to download. The application details page will open.
3. Click Install (if the application is free) or Proceed to Purchase (if the application is paid) on the application details page.
  NOTES:
  - Confirm that the camera you are using is displayed under Compatible Camera.
  - The illustration below is the screen of the paid application.

    - [B]: Proceed to Purchase (In case of the free application, click install ).
4. Enter the Sign-In ID and the Password for your Sony Entertainment Network account, and click Sign In.
5. For the paid application, click OK after confirming the terms and conditions of the application. When selecting the free application, proceed to step 2.
Install the application downloading tool on the computer.
1. If you download the application for the first time, you need to install the application downloading tool. Install it by following the guide on the display.
  NOTE: You will not need to perform this process again after the first time.
2. When the following screen is displayed, installation is done. Click the Reload and continue button.
Install the application on the camera.
1. Connect your camera to the computer, and check the connection.
  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Connect the camera to the computer via the supplied USB cable.
    NOTES:
    - When the following screen is displayed on the camera, press the OK button to close the screen, then proceed to the next step.
    - Use the USB cable supplied with your camera. If you use a USB cable from another manufacturer, proper operation cannot be guaranteed because connection verification may fail.
    - Connect the camera and the computer directly via the USB terminal without using a USB hub. if you use a USB hub when connecting the camera to a computer, the computer may fail to recognize the camera.
  3. When Mass Storage or MTP is displayed on the camera monitor, the connection is completed.
    NOTE: While Connecting... is displayed, the connection is being prepared and has not been recognized by the computer yet. Wait until it is connected.
  4. Click Verify Connection.
    NOTES:
    - If the camera is not detected, verify that the camera's USB connection is set to Auto, Mass Storage or MTP.
      To verify the USB mode:
      Select MENU.
      Select Setup .
      Select USB Connection.
    - If Mass Storage or MTP is displayed on the monitor, the camera is connected correctly.
    - The available applications will vary depending on the camera you are using. If the message The connected camera does not comply with this application. is displayed, you cannot download the application because the camera you have connected is not compatible with the application.
    - A camera firmware update may be required for some applications. If the message To use this application, a camera firmware update is necessary. is displayed, click To the firmware update page and perform the update.
    - When using a Mac OS® X v.10.10 to update the camera, depending on the camera model, there is a need to run the Driver Loader before updating the software.
2. When selecting to download the paid application, proceed to purchase. When selecting to download the free application, downloading starts.
  1. Check the purchased amount and click I Agree. Confirm Purchase. Payment will be made through the Wallet connected to your Sony Entertainment Network account.
  2. When the payment is completed, a payment completion screen will be displayed. To continue and install the application to the camera, click Next.
3. The download will start.
4. When the download is finished, installation follows.

You can customize the Finder toolbar not only with various tools, but also with any app, file, or folder on your Mac, including Automator scripts. Menu Lifewire. The dock in Mac OS X is intuitive, customizable, and aesthetically pleasing, which is a stark difference from its clunky Windows alternative. In fact, in Windows, it takes both the Start menu and taskbar to accomplish what Apple's dock does—but it doesn't have to be like that. Below, I'll show you.

One thing that I really want in my Windows 7 is the Mac style toolbar. It is the most fun to use interface that I have seen. It neatly organizes your icons, and provides a nice look n feel to your desktop.

Every Mac has the Preview app installed on it from the factory, and it’s the default app for opening many kinds of image file types, including PDF files.

Of course, the app has much more to offer than meets the eyes, and today we’ll talk about how you can customize the app’s toolbar to give yourself a little more functionality at a glance.

How to customize the toolbar of your Mac’s Preview app

Like a number of Mac apps that come pre-installed with OS X, you can customize the toolbar in Preview to make way for buttons you’ll actually use and remove the ones you don’t.

To do that, you’ll want to follow these steps:

1) Open a Preview window, which is most easily done by opening an image file of some sort with the app. We’ll use this iDB icon for this tutorial.

2) Now, right click somewhere in the toolbar, and int he menu that appears, click on the Customize Toolbar… option.

3) This is going to provide you with the toolbar customization interface, which looks like this:

Now you have full access to customizing the toolbar of your Preview app any way you’d like to.

Customizing the toolbar

To start customizing the toolbar, all you’ll want to do is click and drag on items. You can click and drag to remove buttons from the existing toolbar, or you can add new buttons to the toolbar from the toolbox.

The options that are available to you by default are:

Search

For power users, where these features aren’t enough, the toolbox opens doors for additional point-and-click options that can be added to the toolbar of your Preview app. Among those features are:

In addition, you can also add extra space or more flexible space.

For power users who open multiple files at once with the Preview app, the Previous and Next features are going to be useful options, and for those who love a good photo show, the slideshow is also nice for setting the mood at a party.

If you’re using Preview for PDF files, or oddly-shaped images, I also find that the Zoom to Fit and Zoom to Actual Size come in handy. For PDF files with multiple pages, the ability to move through pages is invaluable, as is the page history option.

Those using Preview purely for image viewing will love the Magnify option, because it lets you get up close and personal. It’s different than zooming, because instead of getting closer to the whole image, Magnify gives you a magnifying glass that you can pan around the image to get a closer look at a specific part.

Preview is a highly versatile app that many are quick to replace with third-party app options, but when it comes down to it, you can make Preview even more powerful by enabling useful features from the toolbox and putting them right into your toolbar for quick access.

The toolbar at the top of the Mac OS X Snow Leopard screen gives you one-click access to many basic tasks. You can customize the icons that appear on Mac’s toolbar to facilitate your work style and preferences. The default icons on the toolbar include:

Back and Forward: The Back button moves you to the previous window’s contents. If you use the Back button, the Forward button appears.

You can always drag a file or folder into the Sidebar column at the left of the Finder window.
To remove an item from the toolbar, drag it off to the center of the window.
Naturally, you can swap item positions. Just click an item, drag it to its new spot, and then release the mouse button.
To choose the default toolbar configuration or to start over, drag the default bar at the bottom of the window to the toolbar at the top.
This is the toolbar equivalent of tapping your ruby slippers together three times and repeating, “There’s no place like home.”
To toggle between displaying the icons with accompanying text (the default), the icon only, or a text button only, click the Show pop-up menu at the bottom of the Customize Toolbar dialog.

After you arrange your toolbar as you like, click the Done button.

How do I properly set the default character encoding used by the JVM (1.5.x) programmatically?

I have read that -Dfile.encoding=whatever used to be the way to go for older JVMs... I don't have that luxury for reasons I wont get into.

Unfortunately, the file.encoding property has to be specified as the JVM starts up; by the time your main method is entered, the character encoding used by String.getBytes() and the default constructors of InputStreamReader and OutputStreamWriter has been permanently cached.

As Edward Grech points out, in a special case like this, the environment variable JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONScan be used to specify this property, but it's normally done like this:

Charset.defaultCharset() will reflect changes to the file.encoding property, but most of the code in the core Java libraries that need to determine the default character encoding do not use this mechanism.

When you are encoding or decoding, you can query the file.encoding property or Charset.defaultCharset() to find the current default encoding, and use the appropriate method or constructor overload to specify it.

Since the command-line cannot always be accessed or modified, for example in embedded VMs or simply VMs launched deep within scripts, a JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS variable is provided so that agents may be launched in these cases.

By setting the (Windows) environment variable JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS to -Dfile.encoding=UTF8, the (Java) System property will be set automatically every time a JVM is started. You will know that the parameter has been picked up because the following message will be posted to System.err:

Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -Dfile.encoding=UTF8

This way you are going to trick JVM which would think that charset is not set and make it to set it again to UTF-8, on runtime!

I think a better approach than setting the platform's default character set, especially as you seem to have restrictions on affecting the application deployment, let alone the platform, is to call the much safer String.getBytes('charsetName'). That way your application is not dependent on things beyond its control.

I personally feel that String.getBytes() should be deprecated, as it has caused serious problems in a number of cases I have seen, where the developer did not account for the default charset possibly changing.

I can't answer your original question but I would like to offer you some advice -- don't depend on the JVM's default encoding. It's always best to explicitly specify the desired encoding (i.e. 'UTF-8') in your code. That way, you know it will work even across different systems and JVM configurations.

We were having the same issues. We methodically tried several suggestions from this article (and others) to no avail. We also tried adding the -Dfile.encoding=UTF8 and nothing seemed to be working.

For people that are having this issue, the following article finally helped us track down describes how the locale setting can break unicode/UTF-8 in Java/Tomcat

In case you are using Spring Boot and want to pass the argument file.encoding in JVM you have to run it like that:

This should definitely help in making things more visible if you have problems with your vision. However, some apps might not scale properly to the DPI changes.

5. Enable Magnifier

Magnifier lets you zoom into the interface temporarily to view text or elements more easily. To enable magnifier, go to Settings->Ease of Access->Magnifier and turn on the Magnifier toggle. Once enabled, you will see a magnifying glass floating across the interface, which when clicked becomes the magnifier dialog box. You can then zoom in and zoom out with ease by clicking the plus and the minus buttons. There are also options to zoom into the whole screen, zoom into a portion of the screen or use a dock to show the zoomed in content (as seen below).

2. Extract the zip file and open the “TuneIn Radio VLC” folder. You should find a “Playlist” and “Resource” folder, a “readme.md” and “tunein.lua” file.
3. If you have a TuneIn account, you can fill in your username and password to the tunein.lua file so it can retrieve your favorites from the site. Open the “tunein.lua” file with a text editor. Scroll down the page until you see the “username” and “password” field (it should be around line 37 and 38).
Change the “user” and “password” to your TuneIn username and password. Once done, save and close the file.
4. The next step is to move the “tunein.lua” file to the VLC folder so it can be found and run by VLC.
In Linux, move the “tunein.lua” file to ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/sd/
In Windows, move the “tunein.lua” file to %AppData%/VLC/VideoLAN/lua/sd.
In Mac OS X, move the “tunein.lua” file to VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/sd
Note: Create the “sd” folder if it does not exist.
5. Next, move the “radiotimes.lua” and “streamtheworld.lua” files from the Playlist folder to “/lua/playlist” folder in the VLC directory. Similarly to the above, create the “playlist” folder if it doesn’t exist.
6. Open VLC. Go to “View -> Playlist”. At the sidebar, under the Internet section, you should now see “TuneIn Radio” in the list. Click on it and you will be able to access your Favorites.
